LYD Series – Reference Monitors Redefined

LYD uses all the know-how Dynaudio has gained through supplying some of the world’s biggest recording studios with full-on reference monitor systems – and fits it into a pair of compact near/midfield speakers.

These are not poor cousins of their big systems either. LYD is a complete redefinition of Dynaudio’s own products, heading back to the drawing board to find out exactly how much further they could take those concepts.

As it turns out, the answer was ‘quite a lot’

Active studio monitors need to present the unvarnished truth: no colouration, no distortion and no flattery of the music running through them. You need to be able to hear exactly what each thread of the music is doing. So, when it comes to mixing and mastering, you know you can deliver exactly what the artist wants.

LYD combines decades of experience in producing no-compromise reference systems for major studios all over the world, with expertise in home and car audio, digital processing technology and materials science. That combination means you’ll hear nothing but the truth.

Designed to be a monitor anyone can use without a manual,  LYD makes set up a piece of cake. Just getting started in your engineering or producing career? That’s daunting enough as it is without needing to decipher another complicated set of switches and dials on the back of your speakers. Seasoned pro? Then why should you have to learn a new set of controls? You shouldn’t.

Just tweak the wall-position or Sound Balance tilt-filter (for a brighter or darker sound) and you’re done. Best of all, you don’t have to crank them up to hear them at their best – something that’s hard to do if you’re in a smaller or home studio. LYD is designed to sound the same however loud you turn up the music.

Now it’s time to create…

Whatever your needs, there is a model in the range that should fit your requirements, all available in both white/black and the stunning all black finishes.

LYD-5 is ideal for smaller spaces and edit suites, while LYD-7 with its larger 7” woofer helps extend the bass output. Both models feature a dual 50/50w state of the art bi-amp power section and offer sound designers, producers and musicians an authoritative and powerful studio monitor that still excels at low mix volume, while maintaining the precision Dynaudio PRO is famous for.

Perfect for larger mixing environments and home studios, LYD-8 offers an authoritative and powerful (50w HF/80w LF) studio monitor that, unlike a lot of other 8” monitors on the market, still shines in the critical midrange.

While the new LYD-48 3-way tops off the range. Coupling a 4” midrange and an 8” woofer, with a 1” soft-dome tweeter (each fueled by their own powerful, state-of-the-art Class-D amplifier), makes these monitors well suited for nearfield as well as midfield monitor applications. The perfect choice for unrivalled accuracy at any volume, LYD-48 brings precision to passion delivering all the power needed and at the right time.

Don’t just take our word for it though, a second opinion is always great of course, so check out the LYD reviews from a host of top industry media.

Core Series – Core 7, Core 47, Core 59 & Core Sub

Marking Dynaudio’s 30-year anniversary in Pro Audio (since the original ‘Crafft’ monitor was introduced to the market in 1989), the Core Series are the latest high-end extension to Dynaudio’s range of professional premium studio monitor speakers.

The range features 4 models, the 2-way Core 7, the 3-way Core 47 and Core 59 and the earth-shattering Core Sub. All models feature intelligently designed, yet simple-to-use DSP, the highest quality Pascal Class-D amplification, digital and analog connectivity, easy mounting options along with a custom designed Core Bracket, the best non-fatiguing drivers in the business and so much more. They simply are the finest studio monitors the brand has ever produced.

Core is also the first Dynaudio professional monitor range that benefits from having been fully developed within Jupiter, their new advanced R&D centre. Having the absolutely best speaker measurement facilities in Europe and a large, highly skilled team to operate it, all has enabled Dynaudio to bring their renowned custom driver technology even further forward for this new series. Each driver is made in-house in Denmark, where more than 1.4 million drivers are manufactured by hand each year. Furthermore, Dynaudio secure the absolute highest consistency possible, which will allow for 100% uniformity – not just between different pairs, but also when crossing pairs or relying on pairs in different locations.

Dynaudio has long been known for their sweet-sounding soft-dome tweeters, which provide hours of pinpoint imaging and detail without the tiring quality that’s common to many other designs. The Esotar Pro tweeter stands at the absolute pinnacle of Dynaudio’s soft-dome tweeter design and builds on this heritage with the ingenious Hexis device. It’s an inner dome that sits just behind the diaphragm and optimises airflow, smooths the frequency response and eliminates unwanted internal resonances. The result is unparalleled imaging, transient detail and an effortless high frequency response that simply won’t give you ear fatigue.

The acclaimed LYD range was launched in 2016. The Core range is in every respect the next level up from this series, but Core also is a considerable step up from the now discontinued AIR range.

With their significantly improved driver technology, more power and additional features, these new monitors give you absolutely everything you need to hear.

9S and 18S Subwoofers

Dynaudio’s latest 9S and 18S professional subwoofers are designed to be equally efficient for stereo and surround monitoring applications, handling the ultra- low frequency range. The 9S features a single woofer, while the 18S has two in a push-push opposing dual design with a woofer on each side.

Both subs feature brand new and custom long-throw 9.45in (24cm) woofers developed specifically for the heart of each model. In addition, the new subwoofers come with double front baffles, adjustable low-pass filters from 50Hz to 150Hz and SAT outputs with a defeatable high-pass filter, a signal- sensing auto-power circuit that saves energy when not in use and for larger rooms. It is also possible to daisy chain more 9S or 18S subs, having the first unit control the overall volume for all subs connected.

The 9S is just as compact as the previous and highly acclaimed BM 9S II sub, yet with a performance that is comparable to the larger BM 14S II sub. Regardless of whether you add it to a LYD-5, 7 or 8 stereo or surround setup or use it with the Classic BM series of studio monitors, it delivers a full, yet focused and revealing performance. You’ll be able to make accurate mixes that translate great to any format and playback system. Powered by a high-end 300-watt Class D amplifier, 9S also features a new long-throw MSP driver that delivers low-end extension and SPL performance significantly outperforming the BM 9S II it replaces, while still preserving detail and precision that Dynaudio is famous for.

The 18S is powered by a 500-watt amplifier and features a powerful DSP engine and built-in presets for Dynaudio studio monitors, as well as time-alignment functionality and a three-band EQ to defeat specific room modes which makes it perfect for a larger surround monitoring system. However, coupling with LYD-48 essentially turns this combination into a powerful four-way monitoring system, one that’s equally capable of delivering both high SPL and low-volume precision.

Dynaudio has also designed a brand-new driver for the 18S. The new MSP+ Hybrid Drive unit has been developed specifically with deep bass in mind for the best low frequency performance possible, using an innovative dual-action dampening method. It has paper at the back of the aluminium driver and Dynaudio’s MSP material in a dampening cap on the front, which will counter any ringing from the aluminium.

BM Series – Classic Analog Monitors

For many years the BM6A, BM15A and BM5 (now in mk III guise) have been industry staples wherever consistency, required SPL and accuracy have been the bywords for audio professionals, all with the legendary non-fatiguing Dynaudio driver technology.

Applications for Dynaudio’s Classic range of BM monitors cover every aspect of sound engineering and reproduction, including music and speech monitoring, mixing, broadcast, TV, radio, OB vehicles, edit suites, post production, recording studios and playback rooms.

Their size combined with their brilliant performance also make the BM series very well suited to full-blown multi channel surround systems, in combination with Dynaudio’s range of active subwoofers,  in smaller and medium sized mix rooms

The BM series is trusted by hundreds of top film, broadcast, post and production studios the world over.

M- Series Main Monitors

Dynaudio’s M Series monitors offers the ultimate main monitoring solution, combining world-class driver and cabinet technology.

For recording, dubbing and mixing, M3VE or M3XE deliver the full and rich sound that you would expect from a main monitor, but with a level of sonic detail and precision far beyond ‘expected’.

While the latest M5P Evidence is the ultimate far-field speaker that empowers the mastering engineer with the ability to pinpoint and evaluate every little audio detail with extreme accuracy. Needless to say, that this is exactly what mastering engineers need to make informed decisions.

In short, regardless of application, Dynaudio’s M Series of professional monitors will deliver the audio quality professional audio engineers have come to expect and possibly even a bit beyond that.

Chosen by Ear – Made by Hand in Denmark

All Dynaudio Pro studio monitors are made by hand in Denmark using only the finest materials and hand-crafted drivers. Great mixing derives from attention to detail, while striving for a final mix that goes way beyond the sum of its parts and Dynaudio believes that the same principle should apply when designing ultimate studio monitors.

The LF drivers feature a double neodymium magnet system with a vented pole piece that gives accurate driver control and a large diameter voice coil surrounds the magnet for superior linearity. The aluminium voice coil former and wire are very low mass, while the diaphragm and dust cap are moulded as one piece in a patented low-mass, highly rigid Magnesium Silicate Polymer so transient response is blazingly fast.

Some studio monitor tweeters can sound harsh and metallic, but Dynaudio’s legendary soft-dome tweeters reproduce upper frequencies in a natural, uncoloured manner. Also, these tweeters don’t give off any shrill high-frequency resonance, saving you from that annoying ringing sound that can plague some other designs.

Utmost care in selection of materials and production combined with the industry’s most thorough and extensive testing programme allows Dynaudio Pro monitors to achieve 100 percent uniformity – not just between different pairs, but also when crossing pairs or relying on pairs in different locations.

This results in incredible consistency across the entire line of products that perform well above their class, giving unrivalled accuracy and due to the unique driver technology, Dynaudio Pro monitors are neutral and uncoloured. The smooth clarity in combination with the outstanding dynamic capabilities of these monitors ensure that you can work long hours without ear fatigue.
