Stone Deaf

Hand made with love in England

Completely unique and groundbreaking effects and amplification

British effects and amplification brand Stone Deaf, though relatively new to the market, is already carving out a well deserved reputation for manufacturing forward-thinking effects pedals and amps, entirely handmade in the UK.

The brand’s founder, Luke Hilton, started out with nothing but a massive pedal collection and a simple dream back in 2009. That dream was to bring something new to the world of effects, breaking the chains of trends and fads and instead becoming a brand who creates the sonic trends of the future.

In 2010 Luke’s dream became a reality with the highly acclaimed PDF-1. A truly unique drive pedal unlike anything else, PDF-1 sported a parametric EQ and active circuitry that allowed for on-the-fly control via an expression pedal. This technology has shaped the foundation of Stone Deaf’s amazing range of drive, distortion and fuzz pedals: Warp Drive, Kliptonite, Fig Fumb, Trashy Blonde and the successor to the company’s first creation, the PDF-2.

However, Stone Deaf have also delved into the dark-arts of digital, giving unprecedented control to analogue effects and valve amplifiers. The first offering in this line is the amazing Tremotron, an all analogue Dual Tremolo that’s sure to set hearts alight among sonic experimentalists, as well as old-school tone purists.

If you want something generic, then you’ve come to wrong place.

Stone Deaf craft tone like no other, so if that’s what you crave then welcome to the awesome magical world of Stone Deaf.

The very popular PDF-1 was Stone Deaf’s first product and has been used by infamous guitarists such as Josh Homme, Nick Valensi and many others. As the younger brother and the successor to the original pedal, the PDF-2 improves on the design with a reduced noise floor, adjustable gain knob and a dual foot-switch for clean and dirty channels.

PDF-2 is one hell of a versatile pedal that’s applicable to many instruments. From Electric Piano, Bass, Drums and Synths, to Electric and Acoustic Guitars, this little beast of a circuit has proven itself as one of the most useful pedal based EQ, Boost and Distortion devices on the market.

Add a Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal to the expression input control and on top of the impressive regular tone shaping features, PDF-2 can also be used for wah, phaser and manual tonal shifts to give you even more tonal creativity.

Used by many professionals on tour, PDF-2 has proved to be a rugged design due to the pedal’s high quality construction and each PDF-2 is proudly manufactured by Stone Deaf in their own factory based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England.

Tremotron

The Tremolo of Tomorrow, Today!

The Tremotron is the tremolo pedal musicians have been begging and searching for, for ages! It offers the warm pulsating analog tremolo tones known from high-class amplifiers, but adds unprecedented digital control, letting you run up to two different tremolos at the same time, both with varying shape, depth and rates for syncopated rhythmic patterns that are just out of this world! Now add full expression and MIDI-control to the mix, for on the fly parameter changes and preset switching and you’ve got a tremolo pedal that will rock your world for years to come.

• All-analog tremolo circuit – for warm and lush pulsating tones
• Run 2 different tremolos simultaneously – for a world of syncopated patterns
• Digitally controlled – Take control of parameters via expression and MIDI
• Store presets – 4 on-board presets and up to 128 via MIDI
• Tap tempo and tap divisions – for precise pulses in time with your music
• Top-mounted I/O, True Bypass and handmade in the UK
• Powered by opt. PSU (9V DC, centre -, 2.1mm, ~250mA current draw)

A “Dual” analog tremolo, Tremotron is a tremendous pedal, with a fully analog signal path, true bypass relay switching and is like nothing you will have ever heard or thought possible in an analog tremolo pedal.

With individual controls of Depth, Rate and Wave Shape, Tremotron gives you the ability to set each tremolo at different speeds or automatically sync in time with each other using the same syncopations. Why not pick your own wave shapes such as sine, square, ramp, reverse? Or maybe even make your own? Layer it up with some modulation so things get a bit tasty, by pressing a control knob down and then by moving the controls, different colours on the LEDs indicate how much you are now adding or reducing your modulation.

You can also recall 4 presets within the pedal itself and in addition save and recall 128 presets via the MIDI input using any MIDI device including a DAW, Keyboard, Control Looper etc. Foot control is via a regular expression pedal to selectively cover the Depth, Rate and Shape of each tremolo, independently or separately. This means that you can control one tremolo via expression while the other is fixed or both at the same time or individually, which allows you unprecedented creative options.

Only the best components with premium ARM chips, WIMA Caps, audio-grade potentiometers, Burr Brown Op-amps and custom encoders allow for a robust and professional device that will take analog tremolo tones to places never before heard.

Add in tap-tempo, tone-shaping for darker or lighter sounding tremolo sounds, as well as being able to match the volume so it fits sonically with the rest of your pedal board and you have the most versatile tremolo pedal ever made!

Warp Drive

Put Your Tone Into Hyperdrive

The Warp Drive effectively turns your instrument into a supersonic sledgehammer! With its vast gain range, Warp Drive will give you everything from the smoothest crunch tones to the meanest and most manic metal tones you’ve ever heard and with its foot-switchable noise gate and paracentric EQ, you’ll be unleashing tight and punchy distortion tones in no time. Now add in on-the-fly tone sculpting or foot-controlled phaser and wah sounds via the optional Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal and you have one of the most powerful sonic weapons on the planet.

• Vast gain range – from light crunch to lean mean metal tones
• Switchable Noise Gate – for super-tight high-gain tones
• Highly sculptable Paracentric EQ – for perfect tones with any rig
• Phaser/Wah functionality via Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal
• Top-mounted I/O
• Handmade in the UK
• True-Bypass switching
• Powered by opt. 9V PP3 battery or PSU (9V DC, centre -, 2.1mm, ~55mA current draw)

The Warp Drive is a high-gain Paracentric-Distortion filter – and when we say high-gain we mean really high-gain! With its ultra-saturated cascading gain stage circuit, you can craft those often hard to get saturated tones you love with ease. From Sabbath-era hard rock metal, Pantera early 1990’s metal or even more modern metal tones like Mastodon, Bullet for My Valentine and Trivium, it’s all here in spades. The built-in noise gate allows for very tight rhythm playing and holds extremely well if you want to gain stack even further into the pedal.

It’s not all about gain though. Without the control Warp Drive allows, most high-gain pedals will leave just a mush of distortion that can be hard to tame. Like no other pedal before it and with the built-in Paracentric EQ, you can refine your tone to cut through the mix or do novel layering techniques when recording different frequencies from the pedal. All of this gives you that huge sounding guitar tone so prominent in metal and hard rock music.

Add a Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal to the expression input control and on top of the impressive regular tone shaping features, Warp Drive can also be used for high gain wah, phaser as well as the ability to control your tone on the fly with your foot. Each Warp Drive is proudly manufactured by Stone Deaf in thier factory based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England.

Plus, with on-the-fly tone sculpting or foot-controlled phaser and wah sounds via the optional Stone Deaf EP-1 expression pedal, you have the classiest classic-rock pedal ever made.

The quintessential ‘classic-rock-in-a-box’ guitar pedal, the Trashy Blonde is inspired by tones reminiscent of classic British tube amplifiers and especially on the definitive Marshall® amp sound, allowing you to drive any clean amplifier with controlled and musical crunch. Trashy Blonde is a sexy British beauty that features a great deal of classic rock with unquestionable control. Imagine you wanted some classic Brit tones from your super clean jangly amp? Well she will turn any prancy little thing into overdriven crunchy distorted badass. Roll her back with your guitar volume and she cleans up very nicely. You may also want to mix it up with her mix knob, allowing you to toggle through trebly distortion, to a more rounded vintage tone with plenty of warmth.
Extremely versatile, you can get those JTM45 subtle break-up tones all the way through to saturated JCM800 territory and then suddenly you’re feeling just like Slash stepped in with his heels. Plus, the design allows mixing clean and distorted signals with ease for a more vintage, well rounded and less saturated tone, to more classic rock tones reminiscent of AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. The in-depth EQ settings lets you to refine the sound to your exact preference, while the parametric filter and noise gate assists in suppressing unwanted feedback, so that you’re always in control.

However, Trashy Blonde does have another ‘secret’ channel up her sleeve. By cranking the Balance (output) knob on the clean channel, into a ‘just about to break up’ amp will take you into boosted valve break up, step on the Trashy side and then boom! You’re into full-on distortion nirvana.

Add a Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal to the expression input control and on top of the impressive regular tone shaping features, Trashy Blonde can also achieve wah, phaser and manual tonal shift sounds as well as the ability to control your drive tone on the fly with your foot.

Fig Fumb

Inspired by and based on the classic Big Muff circuit, the Fig Fumb adds and holds a superb amount of stability due to the fact it has a built-in foot-switchable noise gate. It also contains a fully Paracentric EQ to dial in perfect muff tones from all the different flavours of the various Big Muff eras, as well as letting you counter that dreaded mid-scoop, seeing you cut through the mix with ease.

Gilmour tones? Check. Smashing Pumpkins? Check. Santana? Check. Dinosaur Jr.? Check! Add a Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal to the expression input control and on top of the impressive regular tone shaping features, Fig Fumb can also achieve fuzz wah, fuzz phaser and manual tonal shift tones as well as the ability to control your tone on the fly with your foot.

Kliptonite

Split Personality Distorter

Kliptonite is a true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde situation, sporting both a smooth and bluesy overdrive circuit as well as a rippin’ velcro fuzz, letting you go from mild to wild, simply at the stomp of a switch. Plus with the Mirror Mix, you can blend the two circuits for a wide variety of sane and insane tones. Now add in pin-point precise tone control via the Paracentric EQ, as well as on-the-fly tone sculpting or foot-controlled phaser and wah sounds via the optional Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal and you have one of the coolest and most versatile dirt device currently on the market.

• Overdrive and Fuzz in one pedal – switchable via second footswitch
• Mirror Mix – dial in the perfect mix of overdrive and fuzz
• Highly sculptable Paracentric EQ – for perfect tones with any rig
• Phaser/Wah functionality via Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal
• Top-mounted I/O
• Handmade in the UK
• True-Bypass switching
• Powered by opt. 9V PP3 battery or PSU (9V DC, centre -, 2.1mm, ~30mA current draw)

Combining a Paracentric EQ, Mix knob (between fuzz and overdrive), expression control and dual channel foot-switchable operation, the Kliptonite is one of the most exciting fuzz and overdrive combinations that you are ever likely to experience.

However, Kliptonite’s most unique feature is the ability to mix the overdrive and the fuzz circuits in parallel in either of the distinctive tone’s favour and switch using the footswitch in a flip-flop fashion between the two. So for example, you could set 75% overdrive and 25% fuzz, push the foot-switch flipping the signal to the other channel and then have 75% fuzz 25% overdrive.
While the overdrive can give you a creamy bluesy tone, the fuzz on this pedal is a velcro type fuzz, so don’t expect smooth endless sustaining notes, instead expect ripping, spluttery madness that’ll make your riffs stick out with true ferocity.

Add a Stone Deaf EP-1 active expression pedal to the expression input control and on top of the impressive regular tone shaping features, Kliptonite can also achieve wah, phaser and manual tonal shift tones as well as the ability to control your tone on the fly with your foot.
