Aiming for the best tone?

Two notes provide the missing link

between your actual amp/preamp and your DAW or PA

Established in the south of France in 2008, Two notes Audio Engineering was born from the idea of producing accessible guitar and bass products that were originally reserved only for studio and live sound professionals, to players of all shades.

The emergence of computer recording solutions in the last few years has largely encouraged musicians to explore the sound recording process themselves, which until only recently was a luxury available to professional sound-engineers.

Today, Two notes have achieved this aim with their line of award-winning and highly respected Torpedo series. Depending on your requirements and the model, these devices can safely load your favourite valve/tube guitar amp and allow silent recording, practice or even live on stage, all with the world’s best cabinet simulation available on the market today. With the Two notes Wall of Sound plug-in software this can also be brought directly into your DAW, while the Torpedo Reload and new Torpedo Captor loadbox devices are perfect for unleashing your favourite tube amp in a variety of modern applications and venues.

Actively pursuing their project with the same undiminished passion, Two notes are continuing to develop a line of products that will meet musicians’ needs and expectations. It is with this idea in mind that they created a whole new range of Preamplifier pedals to give performers, engineers and musicians everywhere better access to professional tools that help with their performances.

Two notes Torpedo Series

Torpedo Studio, Torpedo Live, and Torpedo Cab

It’s fair to say that most musicians are much more comfortable with the tone (and more importantly feel) that they get from their traditional analog tube amplifiers and effects pedals, than what they can achieve with fully digital modelling systems. However, capturing, recording or simply practicing at home with traditional amps etc. can create many issues: lack of time for adequate set up, limited gear availability, loud amplifiers you simply cannot play at the volume they need to be to perform at their best, having the right acoustics or simply having bulky and heavy speaker cabinets to carry.

You love the sound of your amplifier pushed right to the magic sweet spot where the best tones are. Until now, the only available option was blasting your sound through a cab to properly excite a microphone. Enter Torpedo, the simplest and most realistic way to get your sound to your audience. Use the amp you love but with highly realistic and acclaimed speaker simulation, that is achieved by use of convolution. Two notes started from that technology and brought it much further, to accurately reproduce the characteristics of the whole recording chain (speaker, microphone, preamplifier, studio room acoustic). Everything that makes a real amp rule over all the other alternatives is retained. You can even record silently late at night! Gone is the backache from the loadout, complaints from neighbours, venue staff or even bandmates and the frustration of not being able to sound at one’s best trying to reduce the volume.

Meet Torpedo Studio – the most advanced amp DI box in the world. Torpedo Studio simply is the pinnacle of tube amp speaker and miking simulation today and its features include a loadbox with up to 150w RMS handling, a switchable impedance (4, 8, or 16 Ohms), the possibility to choose between resistive and reactive (just like a real speaker) loads for the most accurate feel and slots for 50 cabinet models with dual mono/stereo miking. This allows for the combined simulation of 2 cabinets + 2 microphones for optimal mixing. Position two different microphones in front (or behind) your speaker cabinet, or with two different speaker cabinets, then mix the two simulations to send them to the stereo outputs. The large choice of available analog or digital inputs and outputs allows the Torpedo Studio to work in any situation.

For those who don’t require all the options the Studio model offers, the Torpedo Live is a digital loadbox perfectly fit to be used on stage.  With a 100w reactive load and supplied with 32 cabinet simulations all in a compact 1U rack, this model can easily fit in most live and gigging player’s amp rig.

While the Torpedo C.A.B. offers those high-end cabinet simulations, but in a stompbox format. It includes all the great features of the Torpedo Live, without the loadbox, but with an input stage specifically tailored to accept pedal-level signals. Combine C.A.B. with your choice of Le Preamp and you have the ultimate ‘fly-away’ rig.

All three of these models in the Torpedo range can be controlled with the free Torpedo remote editing software and the range have been meeting with consistent praise among musicians, accompanying some of the greatest guitar and bass players on stage and in the studio.

Le Preamps

Le Clean, Le, Crunch, Le Lead and Le Bass

When building a complete floor rig, the selection of a preamplifier is core to your overall tone and thus requires the greatest attention. However, Two notes just couldn’t find any existing preamps in a pedal format that would suit their own needs and many users complained that they couldn’t really find their tone with just effects pedals and the very few real preamps on the market. So, after some painstaking research, Two notes created 4 distinct models to cover the essential and basic tones that guitarists and bassists generally look for.

The Two notes Le Preamp range of tube preamplifiers are a True High Voltage Design running internally at 200 volts to preserve the interaction between you and your guitar while working perfectly with other effect pedals.

Each of the four different versions have two channels, plus a combination of the two called Fusion to deliver the unique tube warmth, dynamics, and the musical compression from the amps we know and love, but now in a more convenient pedal package. In addition, you can also use them as an elaborate tube overdrive, in front of your favourite amplifier!

Le Clean is a great platform for FX and tone pedals, Le Crunch is really the rock’n’roll to hard rock model, while Le Lead is there for when you need that extra distortion to cut through the mix in solo, or play devastating rhythm riffs.  The A channel is always ‘clean’, but on Le Crunch for example you can push the A gain and get some nice, mid freq distortion. Channel B is the dirtier channel, from slightly distorted (Le Clean) to frankly saturated (Le Lead). Fusion can be Cold (A and B are in parallel) or Hot (A and B are cascaded). That way you can either mix clean and dirty sounds in the Cold mode (a famous studio trick to bring back more dynamics in a too compressed dirty sound for example) or push the B channel even more by using A as a simple boost with EQ.

The two channels in Le Bass are voiced slightly differently. A is more modern, while B is more vintage in vibe. Bassists love the fact that it doesn’t sound like most solid-state DI units out there, but more like a real tube bass amp, one that you can push without suffering the consequences.

All models come with the Torpedo Wall of Sound III plugin. You can record a guitar or bass track going out of a preamp direct into your DAW, then insert the WoS III plugin to access some of the very best speaker simulations of the market.

Torpedo Remote

Control your Torpedo via USB and much more

Sometimes, you need a big screen for editing, that’s why Two notes developed an app to control the Torpedo digital hardware products remotely from your Mac/PC via USB. With its clear and intuitive interface, the Torpedo Remote software will give you access to all the parameters of your digital hardware Torpedo, firmware updates, memory management to move, delete, and add new cabinets presets etc. and La Boutique, the in-app virtual cabinet store where you will find numerous additional cabinets, microphones, and speaker models for sale.

Torpedo Wall of Sound III

Bring tone and control to your DAW

The WoS III plug-in brings the Torpedo speaker and miking simulation to your favourite Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), such as Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools, Studio One, Reaper etc. and is available in AU, VST, RTAS and AAX formats.

You can feed WoS with a dry amp track coming from a Torpedo digital or analog loadbox (silent miking of a tube amp), the sound coming from a Le Preamp, or replace the speaker simulation section of your preferred amp modelling plugin. WoS III can be used to load any of the Two notes virtual cabinets that you may have bought or received with a hardware digital Torpedo product.

Torpedo Reload and Torpedo Captor

load and record your amps safely

The Two notes philosophy stands in one word, transparency. The tone must come from your guitar, your amp and cabinet – not from the electronics that we put between parts of your regular setup. Transparency is the key.

Torpedo Reload is the ideal combination of the devices you must have in a modern studio for the recording of electric guitars and basses: a power attenuator, a multi-impedance loadbox, a DI and re-amping box – it does it all and does it perfectly too.

Attenuators are usually known for the negative impact they have on your tone in cases of heavy attenuation. On the contrary, Two note’s Reactive-Active technology presents your amplifier with a consistent speaker’s impedance no matter what level of attenuation you’re at, and thus preserves the specific character of your amplifier. With a choice of 4, 8, or 16 Ohms, your amplifier (up to 150W RMS) will actually see real speaker impedance, and your tone will remain constant throughout the continuous attenuation curve.

Plug your guitar into the DI Input and send that signal to your recorder. At that stage what you want is clarity and Reload preserves your guitar’s tone as you will certainly want to re-inject it into your amp through the REPLAY™ connections. This allows you to play back what you have recorded via your own amp set up. The most difficult part in re-amplification techniques is finding the output level on the DAW that matches the level of your guitar when it is directly connected to the amplifier. That problem is now solved, thanks to the Reload’s unique MATCH™ solution.

The new Torpedo Captor series are the little brothers of the award-winning Torpedo Reload. Captor is an easy to use reactive Loadbox perfect for unleashing your favourite tube amp in a variety of modern applications and venues. If you just require attenuation from your amp to your cab, Captor has you covered and if you just want an easy and modern way to record your tube amp, Captor is simply “load” and record. Available in 4, 8 or 16 Ohms versions, Captor is capable in handling up to 100w RMS and has a built in analog speaker sim derived from the acclaimed Le Preamp series. Add a Torpedo C.A.B. with its large collection of IR Cab Sims for the ultimate direct solution.

Both Reload and Captor come with the Torpedo Wall of Sound III plug-in to polish your raw tone and recordings with the finest cab simulations available.
